MLB’s Hottest Bats: Who Keeps the Streak Alive?
By Shawn Stewart

“Look, if you’ve been following the picks the last few days, you know we are absolutely locked in. We’re sitting on an 8-1 run over the last three slates, and honestly, the 5-1 strategy is making this look easy right now.
We caught that Andy Pages home run, we rode the Ildemaro Vargas heater while he was breaking records, and we’ve been dodging the duds that usually kill a survivor streak. I’ve spent the morning looking at the matchups for today, and there are a couple of spots I love—especially with the weather heating up.
Let’s keep the momentum going and get another sweep today. Here’s what I’m looking at for April 16th.”
1. Yordan Alvarez (DH, Astros) vs. COL
- Matchup: vs. Ryan Weiss (0-2, 7.36 ERA)
- The Info: Alvarez is facing a struggling Rockies starter with a 7.36 ERA. Alvarez has recorded a hit in 14 of his 18 games this season and is currently in the 98th percentile for Hard-Hit Rate.
- Why it works: Houston is a heavy favorite in a game with a high projected run total. Yordan at home against Rockies’ pitching is a high-probability hit.
2. Luis Arraez (2B, Padres) vs. SEA
- Matchup: vs. Luis Castillo (0-0, 6.92 ERA)
- The Info: If you need a base hit, you pick the two-time batting champ. Arraez is currently leading the Padres in contact rate and faces Luis Castillo, who has struggled with his command early this season (nearly a 7.00 ERA).
- Why it works: Arraez rarely strikeouts (only 4% of the time). Even if Castillo is throwing heat, Arraez is built to put the ball in play, which is exactly what we need for Survivor.
3. Jose Ramirez (3B, Guardians) vs. BAL
- Matchup: vs. Shane Baz (0-1, 4.50 ERA)
- The Info: Ramirez has recorded a hit in 8 of his last 10 games and is notoriously difficult to pitch to at Progressive Field.
- Why it works: Ramirez has a high “clutch” factor in night games and Shane Baz has been prone to giving up high-velocity contact early in counts this month.
RULES FOR NEW PLAYERS (THE DAY 1 SURVIVAL)
If you are joining the crew for the first time today, the MLB Hit Streak Survivor rules on Splash Sports are a bit different for your first entry. It’s designed to help you get your feet wet:
- PICK TWO: You must select TWO primary players today.
- ADVANCE: Only ONE of them needs to record a hit for you to move on to Day 2.
- ALTERNATES: Always pick an alternate! If one of your primary picks isn’t in the starting lineup, your alternate automatically steps in so you don’t lose by default.
